ACT Entrance Exams

The ACT logo features the words 'The ACT' in black, with a red swoosh below.

In order to attend colleges and universities, most colleges require, or, at a minimum, ask that students take an entrance exam. In years past, most state universities and colleges wanted you to have an ACT score of 21 or better or take something like the Compass test.

Two main entrance exams include the ACT and SAT. Typically, students in our geographic region take the ACT.

Recently, KSDE has paid for 9th-grade students to take the PreACT as well as juniors for the ACT. Both of those are taken care of by your high school and you are enrolled in those programs for the FREE KSDE versions.

ACT offers national test dates seven times a year every two months with an extra date in the summer. The cost for the ACT changes yearly; however, some students can qualify for fee waivers.

Students can take the ACT up to twelve times. Only your best score is accepted by the colleges, and most places will super score, meaning they take your best sub-score from any test date and use that for scholarships, etc.
